  • Healthy Lifestyle Challenge

    The Sierra Vista Seventh Day Adventist Church would like to invite you to live a healthy lifestyle.

     

    The Health and Temperance department is hosting a challenge for anyone interested in participating from:

     

    January 9 to August 28, 2010

     

    Church Members, friends, and family interested in participating in the Healthy Lifestyle challenge can call the Health and Temperance Leader for additional Information:  1-(520)-378-2311.

     

    The Challenge will be broken into eight culminating events for each month:

     

    • Walk (1.5 miles)
    • Walk/Run (2 miles)
    • Run (2.5 miles)
    • Bike (3 miles)
    • Bike (4 miles) and Run (2 miles)
    • Swim (300 yards)
    • Swim (400 yards) and Bike (5 miles)
    • Swim (500 yards), Bike (6 miles), and Run (3 miles)

     

    This challenge will be presented in a series of sessions over the next eight months.  Each session will be held at the Better Living Center.  Each session will start at 4:00 PM:

    Stretching Basics will focus on extending your limbs and muscles to their full extent.

     

    Aerobics will focus on muscle tone and definition with the use of strength training and cardio exercises.

     

    Circuit Training will focus on stationary aerobic conditioning of the heart and muscles.

     

    Attendance will be taken at each monthly culminating event.  1st place by group will be recognized for their efforts.  Anyone completing all eight events will be recognized for their participation in the challenge series.

  • American Red Cross Instructor Series

    American Red Cross (ARC) - Instructor Series

    Lay Responder for the workplace or Schools and Community

    Instructors certified during this training will be authorized to conduct classes for the Southern Arizona Chapter of the American Red Cross.

    The instructor series consists of the following:

    1) Instructor Certification Course (Lay Responder for the workplace)

    The purpose of this course is to certify Instructor candidates with the skills necessary to help sustain life and minimize the consequences of injury or sudden illness until advanced medical help arrives.  The content of this course is designed to help the students to identify and eliminate potentially hazxardous conditions, recognize emergencies and make appropriate decisions for first aid care.  This course is approximately nine hours in duration.

    2) Fundamentals of Instructor Training (FIT)

    The purpose of this course is to:

    • Introduce instructor candidates to the history, structure and activities of the ARC
    • Prepare instructor candidates to teach ARC specialty courses to diverse populations.
    • Introduce instructor candidates to the policies and procedures of the ARC to ensure course consistency, quality and appropriate reporting.

    This course is approximately four and half hours in duration.

    3) Instructor Course - Lay Responder for the workplace, Schools and Community

    The purpose of this instructor course is to train instructor candidates to teach basic-level Red Cross First Aid, CPR, and AED courses for lay responders.  This course is approximately sixteen hours in duration.

    Note:  Students must identify which module they wish to certify in (workplace or schools and community) at the time of registration.

  • Babysitter's Training

    American Red Cross - Babysitter's Training

    If you would like to sign up for this class, you must between the ages 11 and 15 years old.  This class is designed to provide individuals with the information and skills necessary to provide safe and responsible care for children in the absence of parents or adult guardians.  This training focuses on the skills in leadership, professionalism; safe play; emergency response and basic first aid procedures.

    This class is scheduled from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM.  This class is designed for people working in areas that require advanced life saving skills (e.g., Law Enforcement, and medical professionals).

    Reduce In-Class Time with Blended Learning

    Red Cross has a new way to offer First Aid, CPR and Automated External Defibrillation (AED) Training.

    Red Cross Blended Learning offers web-based training combined with a short, in-class skills session. Flexible and self-paced, the web-based program is available online 24/7.

    • Access courses at your convenience and at your own pace.
    • Course-takers have the option of going through the lessons in full or abbreviated form, and can test out of lessons as well.
    • Access to review online content for a full year.
    • Certifiable courses in First Aid, CPR and AED. Take one course, or combine courses.

    How does it work?

    Stage 1 -- Online Training.
    Each course participant can take the training from any computer that meets the minimum operating system requirements and has high-speed internet access. Students must register a minimum of two weeks prior to the scheduled skills assessment date listed below:

    Stage 2 -- Skills Session.
    A Red Cross instructor allows the participant to practice, then assesses his or her skills. Find the time below that's best for you:
